Cybersecurity Practice & Projects

Hands-On Skills

  • Built small networks using VMs and tested their security
  • Ran vulnerability scans and tried out basic pen testing tools
  • Set up firewall rules and endpoint security settings
  • Solved problems and wrote basic reports like I would in a real job

Sample Projects

  • Conducted ethical port scanning and vulnerability enumeration in controlled environments to simulate real-world reconnaissance techniques
  • Practiced SQL injection techniques in sandboxed systems to understand application-layer vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies
  • Designed and tested home-built server environments for intrusion testing, firewall configuration, and exploit simulation
  • Monitored and analyzed network traffic to identify unusual patterns, unauthorized access attempts, and possible malware activity
  • Simulated DDoS attacks on isolated networks to explore the impact of volumetric attacks and develop defense strategies

Pen Testing Challenge (Lab)

  • Ran scans on a test network and picked out weak points
  • Used simple hacking tools to simulate attacks
  • Wrote a short report explaining the issues and how to fix them
  • Presented it like I was pitching a solution to a client

Endpoint Protection Setup

  • Secured a few test systems using enterprise security practices
  • Ran malware in a safe VM to see how it behaves
  • Recommended changes and improvements based on what I found
